What is the FOP?
The Fraternal Order of Police, (FOP) is an organization created By Law Enforcement Officers, For Law Enforcement Officers, and managed By Law Enforcement Officers who are actively engaged in Law Enforcement in Federal, State, County, City/Municipality, and or Political Subdivisions thereof.  The FOP is a  501c 8 non-profit organization.
Our History

The Fraternal Order of Police began in Pittsburgh, PA in 1915, to benefit Officers who were often working multiple shifts, none or few days off, low pay and no support from the administrations of their agencies.  Since then the FOP has grown into the Nations oldest and Largest Law Enforcement Organization.

The first lodge in NC was chartered in 1953 in Asheville.  NCFOP now has over 5,000 members in local lodges from various federal, state and local agencies, departments large and small, from the mountains to the sea.

The Winston-Salem Lodge 8 FOP was founded in 1972, by members of the Winston-Salem Police Department.  The Lodge grew to include Deputies and Officers from the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Kernersville Police Department, NC Highway Patrol, State & Federal Agencies, ABC Enforcement, Campus Police and other area Law Enforcement Agencies.

To better represent our Members and the scope of our Membership, the Lodge name was later changed to: Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Lodge # 8 Fraternal Order of Police.
